What’s the best way to get over somebody without getting under somebody else or relapsing to avoid the past memories?

I know it sounds cliche and sometimes easier said than done, but just focus on yourself for a bit. Try picking up a new hobby or joining a sports team. Staying active and busy always helps me move on from all sorts of things. Come up with a goal, and crush it!

It takes time. And hard and honest step work.

I didn't work the steps for almost five years and it almost killed me.

I’m not against AA/NA, it just don’t work for me. I have no desire to go back out & so far it’s been enough for me.

Don’t think of the past but what you can do for yourself for a better life

Sometime the past wounds will heal with time. Sometimes it takes talking to someone. Have you considered counseling? Or maybe a different organization in the sober community, AA and NA are great but not for everyone and there are more than just them.

Been in therapy for months, see a psychiatrist as well. I try this app, utilize drug/alcohol mental health groups via FB, IG, try finding sober support in my community but it’s a little difficult still. Invited a sober friend to a sober bar but got stood up but don’t want to go alone. I work at a gym & workout & meet some people through there but Idk, I’ll keep trying, I’m not breaking my sobriety though, came too far from the pic in my photo, I use that as a constant reminder.

It’s easier said than done, I try using that to tell ppl as well, but when your past continues to be brought up in certain aspects then there’s only so much you can take from that sentient. I’ll continue to do my best though.

I have to remind myself when my past is brought up and staring me in the face that that person is dead. I don't live that life and so it isn't me. I cannot change yesterday, all I can do is change who I am today for tomorrow.

Sober friends, phone numbers and meetings, a spiritual reading or two, writing about it.

Focus on your well being which can be difficult and find out what makes you happy. It’s also important to develop new healthy habits and routines
