My uncle was introduced to drugs at a young age by his step dad. He spent years in jail or prison. His step-dad gave my uncle no choice.
My uncle battled this addiction for years. Most of my childhood He was the best uncle he knew how to be despite his addiction. When I was about 9 he joined a program to help him get clean.
3 years later my uncle was clean. He had a glow I had never seen. It made me cry happy tears.
20+ years later he has a beautiful wife, two amazing adult kids, a granddaughter on the way, is retired, planning to open his own BBQ restaurant, has 2 foster kids, involved in his church, and mentoring young men.
My uncle is my hero. Who is your [sober] hero? Who is someone you look up to in recovery or sobriety?
