Safely Navigating Triggers

How do you handle triggers or when a craving arises?

Distractions, a change in focus. Jump right into doing something that make you happy or keeps you busy til it passes.

I try and find something to replace the urge. For example, if it’s alcohol I will go get a non-alcoholic carbonated drink and sip on that and then distract myself. I also notice if I have a plan in the morning (such as a hard workout), I don’t want to be hungover for it and it puts my energy towards something else.

This is great feedback. Thank you!

Makes total sense! I’ve noticed that having a plan for the next day in general makes me a lot more prepared for life/less likely to react poorly to cravings. Idk where I would be without my morning excercise

I remind myself of all I've gained through sobriety and think about how it would suck to lose it all. I text someone right away that I feel like drinking/using and I try to talk it out.

Your welcome. I wrote a book that happens to cover situational things too.

No way! What’s it called?

Love these tips. Thanks
