Hi. I’m new and have questions about naltrexone. My psychiatrist just started me on this medication to start on Friday. I went to detox and rehab back in the summer of 2019 and have had some relapses. Does anyone have any feedback or advice if they’ve been on this medication?

There are some side effects, nausea is one. I was on it for a couple years to lesson the amount of drinks I had and it worked. It cut my drinking in half. I also had to be mindful as well.
I received Vivitrol for 1 year no problems
I think the Vivitrol is better than Naltrexone because you get sick if you have a taste of alcohol. With Naltrexone, it just curbs the cravings but doesn’t cause the same sickness. The Vivitrol is the safer bet if you want to stay sober around alcohol.
