Loosid Sober Tip of the Day July 7

Much like we can’t win today’s game on yesterday’s home run, we can’t stay sober today on yesterday’s sobriety.

During our active addiction, so many of us spent every day repeating the same rituals on a daily basis. It became such a ritual that we didn’t even realize the negative effects that were taking place as a result of our actions.

In recovery, we need to incorporate the same daily practice in order to stay emotionally sober. For many of us, prayer and meditation has been a non-negotiable that we have learned to practice every morning when we arise.

Many of us do the same throughout the day and before we retire at night.

Some other activities that can set our day right are reading from spiritual texts.

For those in a 12-step program, we may read 12-Step literature each morning.

We may also attend a meeting of likeminded others on a daily basis.

We may also reach out to people within our support network each day.

If you have not incorporated a daily practice into your recovery, there is no time like the present.

Find something you enjoyed as a kid. Something you loved to do but forgot about it thru addiction. Like biking, golfing, playing in the mud.. go back to it. Add it to your sober life again!!!

I get up every morning and journal. I start out by praising myself for some thing good about me that I haven’t recognized before, or some accomplishment. Then, imagine forward and think about what that positive could produce in my life in the future if I did it, or had it, every day.

That resonates with me Dee. I get up every morning. Meditate, practice gratitude of at least one thing in grateful for before I start the day

I found recently, with Co-occurring disorders (ADHD specifically) that I have to trick myself into starting or adhering to activities or structure...
I DO do my best to adhere to basics:
Faith, community, responsibility, self care, work, and some entertainment..

I start every day opening up two gifts... my eyes. Then I thank my higher power for waking me up because somewhere someone took their last breath today.
I try to read literature or a daily reflections but sometimes I forget to do it in the morning. I use apps like this as reminders, and my meditation Playlist on YouTube music or Spotify. Guided meditations are great at night, or as soon as I'm off work. In the interim, I make sure to pray.
5 things I try to do daily is

  1. pray in the morning
  2. read literature
  3. contact several people in recovery
  4. Get to a 12 step meeting
  5. Thank God for keeping me sober for the day, pray , and take my daily inventory.
