Came to the realization today that drinking at a bar among strangers was the exact same as - or even worse, and more desperate than - drinking by myself.

I never understood drinking at a bar. Of course I am not a big crowd kinda guy.

I used to go to bars alone, and then feel annoyed when people tried talking to me. Like, I didn't actually want to socialize; I just didn't want to be alone with my thoughts at home. I could have saved myself a lot of money if I had just chosen to be a hermit from my couch rather than from a bar stool...

...exact same

People say drinking helps them socialize, but it really closes you off to others. The person who ends up talking to people using “social lubricants” isn’t the real you. I’m still trying to get through that concept but when it was told to me it really made sense to me.
